English:
Peggy Winter has been teaching for 34 years in Alabama classrooms, 20 of which have been in AP English Literature and Language classes. She received her undergraduate degree in Secondary Education Language Arts/Dramatic Arts and Speech and has a Masters degree in Secondary Education English. She currently teaches at Sparkman High School in the Madison County School District. Ms. Winter has held a variety of leadership positions within her school and district as a member of the School Leadership Team, a member of the Curriculum Development and Improvements Committee, and a member of the Program Evaluations and Assessments Committee. She has served her profession as a teaching mentor and as a student teacher supervisor.
Math:
Matthew Massey is entering his 10th year of teaching at Buckhorn High School and has also taught at Clark County High School and at the University of Mississippi. He is entering his 2nd year with National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification. He has taught Calculus for 7 years AP Calculus for 2 years. He has also taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Algebra A&B, geometry, and pre-Calculus. He received his BS degree from Troy University in Math Education and his Masters Degree in Mathematics from the University of Mississippi.
Science:
Leslie Machen began her career in education in the fall of 1992 working as a Biology Lab Instructor for John C. Calhoun Community College in Decatur, AL. In 2005, she became a part-time adjunct teaching Biology 103. In 1994, she began teaching full-time for the Madison County School System. She taught 6th and 8th Grade Science at Sparkman Middle School in Harvest, AL, until January 2004. She transferred to Sparkman High School where she taught Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, AP Biology, and Marine Biology. In 2008, I began working for the Huntsville City School System, teaching Biology and AP Biology at Huntsville High School. During the upcoming school year, she will teach AP Biology for Sparkman High School. In March 2008, she received the honor of being named “Madison County Schools Secondary Teacher of the Year”.
